The UC San Diego International Center is excited to meet you in person!  The International Student Orientation is your first chance to experience all that UC San Diego has to offer you. Orientation provides valuable information to ease your transition to campus and life in the USA.

All new international students in F-1/J-1 status (including transfer students from other U.S. schools) are required to complete an online Digital Orientation course (more information below) and attend a mandatory international student orientation session.

Graduate students are encouraged to attend any required Graduate Division and department orientations.

 GROUP Date Time Location

Check back regularly for updated information as scheduling information and locations are subject to change.  Students are expected to attend the international orientation. Failure to attend orientation may prevent you from registering for courses at UC San Diego.

How to sign up for orientation:

Sign on to Register for the In-Person Orientation (Coming Soon!). There will be a separate Online Orientation that will also be required. More information and details will be sent in November.

Please note that the material covered during International Student Orientation is mandatory by U.S. immigration law. Therefore, failure to attend International Student Orientation may result in a hold being placed on your UC San Diego registration.

During orientation, you will:

Meet the International Center staff

  • Review your immigration documents and how to maintain status
  • Receive information about UC San Diego and local community resources
  • Learn about and sign up for welcome events
  • Meet other new international students

The International Student Orientation is mandatory and an additional requirement different from the undergraduate college or graduate department sessions.

Document Check: What should I bring?

F-1 and J-1 students are required to complete a Document Check within 15 days of arrival at UC San Diego. You may complete this process at Orientation. We will review the below documents:

  • Original passport, with F-1 or J-1 visa stamp
  • UC San Diego I-20 (F-1 students) or DS-2019 (J-1 students)
  • I-94 record - print AFTER arrival into the U.S.
  • If your dependents (children/and or spouse) traveled with you on F-2/J-2 status, bring their documents to orientation

International Student Digital Orientation:

Beginning fall 2014, all new international students will be required to take the 55-minute International Student Digital Orientation online. The course can be accessed by clicking the banner below. You will be taken to a Single-Sign On (SSO) page where you will enter your PID credentials:

Link to Sign On to International Student Digital Orientation

Since this is not a live webcast/webinar, you may proceed through the Digital Orientation at your own pace. You will be taken to the page where you last left off should you exit the module.

We encourage all students to have this online course completed BEFORE attending the on-campus orientation (January 5). Your progress will be monitored. The final deadline to complete this course is by January 16, 2015. The Digital Orientation does not replace the mandatory on-campus orientation.
