Fall 2014 Orientation for New International Students

The UC San Diego International Center is excited to meet you in person!  The International Student Orientation is your first chance to experience all that UC San Diego has to offer you. Orientation provides valuable information to ease your transition to campus and life in the USA.

All new international students in F-1/J-1 status (including transfer students from other U.S. schools) are required to attend a mandatory international student orientation session.

Important note, all undergraduate degree seeking students must attend their College Orientation, in addition to the International Student Orientation. Graduate students are encouraged to attend the Office of Graduate Studies and department orientations. Parents and family members of newly admitted international students are also encouraged and welcome to attend International Parent & Family Orientation

International Student Orientation Dates, Times, and Locations:

  Date Time Location & Schedule
Day 1 Monday, September 22, 2014 8am-6pm Coming soon!
Day 2 Tuesday, September 23, 2014 8am-6pm Coming soon!

Note:  Check back regularly for updated information as information and locations are subject to change.  Students are expected to attend the 2 day orientation. Latecomers will be asked to attend another session.  Failure to attend orientation may prevent you from registering for courses at UC San Diego.

How to sign up for orientation:

Orientation sign up information coming soon! Reminder emails will be sent throughout the summer to students who have not yet registered for orientation.

If you cannot attend the September orientation, you will be required to attend a makeup orientation. You will be contacted in the beginning of the fall quarter with makeup orientation dates and times. Please note that the material covered during International Student Orientation is mandatory by U.S. immigration law. Therefore, failure to attend International Student Orientation may result in a hold being placed on your UC San Diego registration.

During orientation, you will:

Meet the International Center staff

  • Review your immigration documents and how to maintain status
  • Receive information about UC San Diego and local community resources
  • Learn about and sign up for welcome events
  • Meet other new international students

The International Student Orientation is mandatory and an additional requirement different from the undergraduate college or graduate department sessions.

Check-in Documents: What should I bring?

F-1 and J-1 students are required to “Check-in” within 15 days of arrival at UC San Diego.  By attending Orientation, you will complete the check-in process.  We will review the below documents during orientation.

  •  Original passport, with F-1 or J-1 visa stamp
  • UC San Diego I-20 (F-1 students) or DS-2019 (J-1 students)
  • I-94 record - print AFTER arrival into the U.S.
  • If your dependents (children/and or spouse) traveled with you on F-2/J-2 status, bring their check-in documents to orientation
