Arrival Information for Admitted Students

Registration at the UC San Diego International Center

All new international students (INCLUDING transfer students from other US schools) must visit the International Center upon arrival in the USA. Failure to register at the International Center may result in the termination of your SEVIS record and loss of your F-1/J-1 status.  New admits for the winter 2010 quarter will be expected to register the week of January 4th. At registration, you will need to submit the following:

  • Completed "Student Registration Form" (need the form? click here)
  • Copy of Passport bio page
  • Copy of I-20 (F-1 Students) or DS-2019 (J-1 Exchange Visitors)
  • Copy I-94 arrival / departure card (front and back)
  • Copy of I-797 Approval Notice (if applicable)
  • Contact information (address, phone number, and email address) in San Diego

Please provide copies of original documents to the International Center. The International Center will not make copies of registration documents. Copies of original documents should be made after arrival to the US. (For print service locations on campus, visit Imprints: Print and Copy Services)

NOTE:Registration is required for all new UC San Diego F-1/J-1 students.

Mandatory New International Student Orientation
All new international students in F-1/J-1 status (including transfer students from other US schools) must attend a mandatory orientation session. Failure to attend an orientation session may prevent you from registering for courses at UC San Diego. This orientation is different from the undergraduate college or graduate department sessions.

NOTE: Orientation is required for all new UC San Diego F-1/J-1 students.  ORIENTATION WILL BEGIN PROMPTLY AT THE TIME STATED.  You are required to attend the full orientation.  Latecomers will be asked to attend another session. A makeup orientation session will be provided for those students unable to attend the International Student Orientation on January 5th.  The makeup session will take place on Wednesday, January 6, 2010.

Please bring your original passport, I-94 and I-20/DS-2019 (including dependents if applicable). We will review these documents during orientation. During orientation, you will meet the International Center staff, receive information about UC San Diego and local community resources, learn about your SEVIS rights and responsibilities, and meet other new international students. This orientation is different from the one offered by the UC San Diego undergraduate colleges or academic departments.

Schedule
Students will learn about SEVIS rights and responsibilities, recent information about UC San Diego and local community resources, take a campus tour, get student ID cards and meet the staff at the International Center.

Parking
Parking is strictly enforced. The small parking lot adjacent to the International Center is not intended for visitors' use. The Gilman Parking Structure has metered parking and is located just south of the International Center on Gilman Drive or visit a UC San Diego Visitor Center to purchase an all-day parking permit.
