Information for Incoming International Transfer Students

Students in F1 or J1 status, who are transferring to UC San Diego from another school in the USA, must do the following to receive their I-20 or DS-2019:

  1) Meet all UC San Diego admission and document requirements
   
  • Undergraduate Students: Complete Admission Checklist
    Includes Statement of Intent to Register (SIR), Statement of Legal Residence (SLR), and transcripts from all institutions attended.
       
  • Graduate Students: Refer to the Online Missing Document Sheet
    Includes Statement of Intent to Register (SIR), Statement of Legal Residence (SLR), and transcripts from all institutions attended.
      REMINDER: All students must complete all admission requirements and submit all transcripts directly to the Admissions Office prior to the program start date. Failure to meet the conditions of your admission (units, grades, classes) may result in the withdrawal of your admission to UC San Diego and the cancellation of your UC San Diego I-20.
      2) Notify current institution of intent to transfer to UC San Diego
    In addition, request the release of your F-1/J-1 SEVIS record to University of California San Diego before the first day of orientation.
      3) Complete Transfer I-20/DS-2019 Request Form
       
  • Required items include sponsor's bank statement/financial support letter and copy of passport biographical page with name and expiration date, visa, and I-94 card.
       
  • Your bank statement/financial support letter must cover ALL educational and living expenses listed on the budget estimates for the upcoming year.
       
  • Documents will be issued after students attend the New International Student Orientation in September.  If you are traveling outside of the USA before the first day of school and need your Transfer I-20/DS-2019 to reenter the USA, please indicate your request on the

  • Submit no later than August 1 to the UC San Diego International Center via fax (858-534-0909) or email intladm@ucsd.edu
      4) Register for the mandatory New International Student Orientation. Click here to register. For more information about orientation, please visit the orientation page.
      5)  Review additional Pre-Arrival Information for incoming international students

    To receive your Transfer I-20/DS-2019, students must complete Steps 1-5.
